Panthers’ Kelvin Benjamin sits out with bone bruise
Carolina’s first-round pick had an MRI after hurting his knee in practice.

Rivera: Kelvin Benjamin has a bone bruise. It's stable, but swelling.
— Joe Person (@josephperson) July 28, 2014 If the injury is not a major problem, it is a huge break for a team with designs on winning the NFC South for the second consecutive season. The Panthers have more questions at wide receiver than anywhere else coming into the 2014 campaign after releasing longtime star Steve Smith and losing Ted Ginn Jr. and Brandon LaFell to free agency.
Benjamin comes in with high expectations after being the first-round selection of Carolina out of Florida State University with the 28th overall pick.
Benjamin starred with the national-champion Seminoles last year, catching 54 passes for 1,011 yards and 15 touchdowns. Cam Newton will likely use Benjamin as a top red zone target, since Benjamin stands at 6'5 and weighs 240 pounds.
