Tanard Jackson receives another indefinite suspension

Fresh off a two-season ban, the Washington safety has caught the fourth suspension of this NFL career.

It didn't take Tanard Jackson long to run afoul of the NFL's substance abuse policy again. Two months after being reinstated from a 20-month ban, the Washington safety was suspended indefinitely by the league on Wednesday after yet another drug violation, according to CBS Sports.

It is the fourth suspension of Jackson’s seven-year career. He has yet to take the field for Washington since signing there in 2012.

Jackson joined the league in 2007 as a fourth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played the first five seasons of his career. His first suspension came in 2009 when he missed four games. He failed another drug test the following year and missed the final 14 games of the 2010 season.

Jackson returned in 2011 and made interceptions in his first two games. But he faded down the stretch and was released by the Bucs after a failed physical in April of 2012.

Washington signed Jackson later that offseason, but by August he had been handed another indefinite suspension. He missed the 2012 and 2013 seasons before the league reinstated him on May 5 of this year.

Just last week, Jackson expressed regret for his mistakes and vowed not to repeat them.

“Going from playing football to working in a warehouse at a 9-to-5 job is a humbling experience,” Jackson told the Tampa Tribune. “It’s taught me to never take anything in this business for granted.”

After a fourth suspension, it’s unlikely Jackson will get another shot in the NFL.
