Roger Goodell addressed the media on Friday as part of the Hall of Fame enshrinement weekend, and he gave more insight into the different legal and suspension issues surrounding the NFL.
Roger Goodell discusses Ray Rice suspension
The commissioner also discussed the Wells Report and the Bills sale at Hall of Fame weekend in Canton.

Goodell has been harshly criticized for his suspension of Ray Rice, as many people have called a two-game suspension for assaulting a woman far too lenient, especially when players who merely fail drug tests routinely get four-game suspensions. Like the NFL has said before, Goodell said he feels Rice's suspension was appropriate because he is a first-time offender.
In short Goodell said Ray Rice 2 game suspension consistent with other suspensions cause he's a first time offender.
— John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) August 1, 2014 Roger Goodell: 'I was also very impressed with Ray in the sense that Ray is not only accepting this issue but he's saying, 'I was wrong.'
— Aaron Wilson (@RavensInsider) August 1, 2014 Goodell: 'I want to see people, when they make a mistake, I want to see them take responsibility and be accountable for it.'
— Aaron Wilson (@RavensInsider) August 1, 2014 Another NFL star, Josh Gordon, is facing a suspension like Rice, though his is likely to be much longer. Gordon could face a yearlong suspension for a failed drug test because he is in the third stage of the league's drug program. However, he is appealing the suspension because he reportedly "barely" tested positive, and will claim that the positive test came from secondhand smoke. Goodell did not have much of an update on Friday.
Goodell: Josh Gordon is going through a process right now. I’m not involved in that process at this time.
— NFL: AroundTheLeague (@NFL_ATL) August 1, 2014 Goodell was also asked about the Wells Report and the impact it will have on the three players — Richie Incognito, John Jerry and Mike Pouncey — who routinely harassed Jonathan Martin. All the commissioner said was that the league is treating them as "separate" situations.
Goodell wasn't clear on how individual players will be impacted from Wells Report. Ingognito has been "responsive" but didn't mention Jerry
— Conor Orr (@ConorTOrr) August 1, 2014 Goodell said they're treated as three separate situations when asked if a further suspension was possible. #nyg
— Conor Orr (@ConorTOrr) August 1, 2014 But in general, Goodell said "everything is proceeding" + all 3 are doing what they've been asked. (Mandatory psych evals been mentioned)
— Conor Orr (@ConorTOrr) August 1, 2014 And finally, Goodell was asked about the sale of one of the teams playing in the Hall of Fame Game — the Buffalo Bills. However, he had no information on the bidders.
At Hall of Fame, Roger Goodell asked about number of bidders in Bills’ sale. Says he isn’t aware of exact number.
— Mike Rodak (@mikerodak) August 1, 2014 Donald Trump and Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula have reportedly advanced in the bidding, and the sale is likely to top $1 billion and become the largest team sale in NFL history.
