It was firmly believed that the Cleveland Browns would roll out into Week 1 of the 2014 NFL season with Brian Hoyer as their starting quarterback, but a new report has surfaced stating that Johnny Manziel has leapfrogged him to be the Browns' No. 1 choice at the position.
Johnny Manziel could start Week 1 for Browns, per report
With his preseason performance against the Detroit Lions, it appears Johnny Football might have climbed the depth chart.

Reported 2 wks ago browns players expected Hoyer to start week 1. Starting to think they were wrong. Team source says Manziel now ahead.
— bob holtzman (@BobHoltzmanESPN) August 10, 2014 Manziel entered the game on Saturday evening against the Detroit Lions right before halftime and put on a display of his skills. He completed 7 of his 11 passes for just 63 yards, but he also was able to add 27 yards on the ground with six rushes, which led the team for the night.
Hoyer had a serviceable night, completing 6 of his 14 passes for 92 yards, but it doesn’t look like his “serviceable” performance was enough to hold off Johnny Football for now.
The Browns play Washington next on Monday Night Football, so it will be interesting to see if Manziel indeed starts the game and passes Hoyer.
Update: Browns head coach Mike Pettine called the report “untrue” and said there is no clear-cut leader in the competition between Manziel and Hoyer.
