X-Rays negative after Bears CB Kyle Fuller injures ankle

Chicago’s first round pick headed into the tunnel during the opening drive against Jacksonville, but he appears to be fine.

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bears cornerback and 2014 first-round pick Kyle Fuller has left his game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night with an apparent ankle injury, sustained on the opening kickoff. It was unclear how serious the injury is, but Fuller left the field and went into the tunnel toward the locker room with members of the Bears' training staff. Fuller will not return, according to ESPN's Michael C. Wright.

Update: X-Rays on Fuller’s ankle were negative.

Bears

Fuller is expected to be one of the main reasons Chicago will turn around its defensive performance from 2013. The Bears drafted Fuller with the 14th overall pick out of Virginia Tech with the intentions of him competing for a starting spot alongside veterans Chris Tillman and Tim Jennings.

During his college career in Blacksburg, Va., Fuller amassed six interceptions throughout his four-year career.

It has been an eventful preseason for Fuller, who was involved in a skirmish with tight end Martellus Bennett last week during a practice. Fuller was not disciplined, while Bennett was suspended by the team for his role in the incident.
