More on the matchup: Carolina has high expectations after winning the NFC South behind an excellent defense. The Panthers went 12-4 and earned a first-round bye before losing to the San Francisco 49ers, but appear primed for another solid campaign should their receivers hold up.

Carolina decided to part ways with Steve Smith, while also losing Ted Ginn Jr. and Brandon LaFell to free agency. The Panthers brought in Jerricho Cotchery and first-round pick Kelvin Benjamin to offset the losses, but it could be tough going early.
Kansas City also is looking for better receiving options in 2014, and may have a diamond in the rough with undrafted rookie free-agent Albert Wilson. Wilson has impressed in camp and is running with the second team. He caught two passes for 14 yards and also had a 50-yard kickoff return against the Bengals in the preseason opener.
Second-year tight end Travis Kelce is another youngster getting attention. Kelce missed the entire 2013 season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his knee. However, Kelce starred against Cincinnati with an impressive 69-yard touchdown, in which he outran the Bengals secondary.
