Giants OG Geoff Schwartz carted off with foot injury

One of New York’s most important free agent signings, Schwartz left the field on a cart in obvious pain.

New York Giants left guard Geoff Schwartz was carted off the field on Friday night against the New York Jets after sustaining an injury to his right foot, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. CBS Sports commentator Ian Eagle stated that Schwartz hurt his toe on the play and will not return.

Update: Schwartz has a dislocated toe, per Garafolo.

Last year, Schwartz signed in the offseason with the Kansas City Chiefs and played himself into a starting role by midseason, unseating Jon Asamoah. Schwartz was solid for the Chiefs but proved to be too rich for their blood during the free agency period, inking a four-year, $16.8 million deal with the Giants.

Schwartz is hoping to provide stability in front of quarterback Eli Manning, who suffered behind brutal protection last year. In 2013, the Giants allowed 39 sacks, leading to Manning's 27 interceptions. Schwartz has been the veteran anchor of the line in training camp with David Diehl and Chris Snee both retiring this offseason.
