Sam Bradford has torn ACL, will miss 2014 season, per report

The Rams lost their quarterback and now must turn to Shaun Hill.

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford has torn the ACL in his left knee and will miss the entire 2014 season, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. The team will announce the injury later Sunday.

Bradford left the Rams' preseason game on Saturday after taking a hit to his left knee from Armonty Bryant of the Cleveland Browns. It was initially reported that the team had "dodged a bullet" based on early test results of the quarterback's knee, but that was before he underwent a complete MRI to better assess the damage.

An ACL tear is the latest in a long line of injuries for Bradford, who’s entering his fifth season after being taken No. 1 overall out of Oklahoma. He’s completed two full seasons but missed significant time in two others, and a major knee injury -- the second of his career -- puts his long-term future with the team into question.

The Rams are in some trouble without their starting quarterback, as longtime journeyman Shaun Hill will likely take over behind center. St. Louis planned to depend on Bradford's developing talent after he showed signs of progress between injuries last season, and now he may not even be able to take the field.
