The Denver Broncos have traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the New York Giants in exchange for kicker Brandon McManus, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Denver's current starting kicker, Matt Prater, will miss the first four games of the regular season due to a suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
Broncos trade conditional 7th-round pick for kicker Brandon McManus
Though he was going to be released, the Denver Broncos traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the New York Giants for kicker Brandon McManus.

The Giants were going to cut McManus prior to Tuesday's 75-man roster deadline, but the Broncos are low in the pecking order when it comes to waiver claims, and McManus likely would have been picked up by another team. New York has Josh Brown as its starting kicker, after a battle for the job throughout training camp.
McManus is known for having a big leg. He has no trouble sending kickoffs through the back of the end zone and there’s been talk about him making some pretty lengthy field goals in practice, including a kick from 75 yards out, according to the The New York Times.
Who knows, if McManus looks good enough in those four games, he could unseat Prater as the starter. Last season, Prater made 25 of 26 field goals, including seven of 50 yards or more. That’s a 96.2 percent success rate, so McManus will have big shoes to fill.
