Kyle Van Noy injury: Lions LB undergoes surgery for ‘core muscle injury’
Detroit Lions rookie linebacker Kyle Van Noy will miss an undetermined amount of time following surgery to correct a core muscle injury.

The Lions released a statement Thursday announcing the surgery for their 2014 second-round draft pick:
Kyle Van Noy underwent a successful surgical procedure today due to a core muscle injury. We will continue to monitor Kyle’s progress and provide updates when appropriate.
According to the team, Van Noy first noticed the injury during the team's practice a day before their preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. After alerting the training staff and meeting with a specialist, surgery was recommended and performed. The Lions offered no timetable for a return.
A converted defensive end out of BYU, Van Noy was vying for a major role as part of the Lions' improved pass rush. Should he miss an extended period of time, third-year linebacker Tahir Whitehead appears to be the top option to replace him.
