Green Bay will retire Brett Favre’s jersey, induct him to Packers Hall of Fame

Brett Favre’s career in Green Bay may have ended on a sour note, but the legendary quarterback and the team have mended fences and Favre will join the Packers Hall of Fame.

Brett Favre isn't eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame until 2016, but the quarterback won't have to wait that long to join the Packers Hall of Fame. Favre will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame in 2015 with Green Bay also set to retire his No. 4 jersey, according to a release on his website.

The Packers and Favre will announce the news at a press conference on Monday. The event, which will take place at 2:30 p.m. ET, comes nearly six years to the day after the team traded Favre to the New York Jets. The split between Favre and the Packers was prolonged and messy, but the two sides have apparently moved beyond any differences that once existed. The process to add Favre as an inductee into the Packers Hall of Fame has been an ongoing one. In February, Mark Murphy, the Packers president, said there was "open dialogue" between the two sides, according to Packersnews.com. Now, some six months later the team, Favre and the Packers Hall of Fame are ready to make an official announcement.

Favre played 16 of his 20 NFL seasons for Green Bay. Acquired in a trade from the Falcons after his rookie season, he took over as the starter during his first season with the Packers in 1992 and went on to start 253 consecutive regular season games for Green Bay. He threw for more than 61,000 yards and 442 touchdowns with the Packers while winning three MVP awards and helping Green Bay win Super Bowl XXXI. He initially retired following the 2007 season and the Packers moved on to Aaron Rodgers. When Favre decided he wanted to come back in training camp of 2008, the Packers opted to stick with Rodgers leading to the trade to the Jets.

Fave will become the sixth player to have his jersey retired by the Packers, joining Tony Canadeo, Don Hutson, Bart Starr, Ray Nitschke and Reggie White.
