The Oakland Raiders have decided to start rookie quarterback Derek Carr over veteran signal caller Matt Schaub according to Jay Glazer.
Breaking: Raiders players have been informed that the team is making the switch at QB and starting Derek Carr over Matt Schaub
— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) September 1, 2014 Once believed to be a potential first-round pick, Carr slipped into the early second round due to a lack of interest in quarterbacks as well as unfavorable comparisons to his older brother David Carr, himself a former busted first-overall draft selection.

Oakland seized the opportunity and made Carr their latest quarterback of the future. To prevent another JaMarcus Russell situation, the Raiders traded for Houston Texans' quarterback Matt Schaub to allow Carr to transition into the NFL game at his own pace. That idea, of course, was forged before Schaub struggled throughout the preseason while Carr's performance improved with every game. The rookie went-11 for-13 for 143 yards and three touchdowns in Oakland's preseason finale which proved enough to convince head coach Dennis Allen to pull the trigger on starting Carr in Week 1.
The Raiders will travel to the Meadowlands to take on the New York Jets in their season opener.
