St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long is expected to miss 8-10 weeks following surgery performed to fix his injured ankle.
Chris Long expected to miss 8-10 weeks after ankle surgery
The Rams are expected to place Long on short-term injured reserve, which will allow St. Louis to activate the defensive lineman later in the season without losing an immediate roster spot.

The Rams first reported that Long had undergone surgery and would miss "at least a few games." That was considered a best-possible outcome for Long, who suffered the injury during last Sunday's game against the Vikings and had to be helped off the field.
However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is now reporting that the timetable for Long’s return is actually much longer than “a few games.”

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 10, 2014 Because Long will be out at least eight weeks, the Rams will reportedly place him on short-term injured reserve. Long can be activated by St. Louis later in the year or left on IR should his ankle not progress as expected.
