Adrian Peterson deactivated by Vikings in wake of indictment

The star running back will not play against the Patriots on Sunday.

Adrian Peterson will not play this Sunday against the New England Patriots. The Minnesota Vikings released a statement on Friday afternoon saying they have deactivated the star running back following his indictment on charges of reckless or negligent injury of a child.

A warrant for Peterson’s arrest has been issued in Houston, Texas, where Peterson must surrender himself to police.

Police reports obtained by Sports Radio 610 in Houston state that in May, Peterson’s four-year-old son returned home to Minnesota after a visit with his father in Texas with cuts and bruises on his arms, hand, legs and buttocks. After being taken to the doctor by his mother, the boy reportedly said that Peterson struck him with a tree branch.

Earlier in the day, the team released the following statement: “The Vikings are in the process of gathering information regarding the legal situation involving Adrian Peterson. At this time, we will defer further questions to Adrian’s attorney Rusty Hardin.”

The statement about his deactivation was released shortly thereafter.
