Nuts and Bolts
San Francisco is piecing together its defense as it plays without three starters. The 49ers have NaVorro Bowman (ACL) and Glenn Dorsey (torn biceps) on the sidelines. Aldon Smith is serving a nine-game suspension.
Chicago is in its second year under offensive guru Marc Trestman and has one of the most powerful attacks in the NFL. No team has a better receiving core, headlined by Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. In the opener, Marshall caught eight passes and Jeffery hauled in five, both amassing 71 yards. The duo will be facing corners Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock, who are both first-time starters.
