Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles suffered a high ankle sprain in the team's Week 2 loss to the Denver Broncos, according to a report from Ian Rapoport, who says Charles "could miss some time" even with a clean MRI. We likely won't have details on a return timeline until the results of the scan are announced.
Jamaal Charles has high ankle sprain, per report
It’s unclear how much time the star Chiefs running back will miss.

“It doesn’t look to be -- and these things take time -- but it doesn’t look to be a real severe one,” head coach Andy Reid said of Charles’ ankle injury, “but it does have the component of a high ankle sprain. What does that mean? We’ll see here.”
Charles, 27, suffered the ankle injury in the first half on Sunday and did not return, finishing with just four yards rushing on two carries and one reception for eight yards. In the Week 1 opener, Charles managed just 19 yards rushing on seven attempts with four receptions for 15 yards.
A Pro Bowler in three of the last four years, Charles has eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing in four of the last five seasons, with his injury-shortened 2011 season serving as the sole exception. If he misses an extended amount of time, second-year running back Knile Davis will take the brunt of the carries for the Chiefs instead.
On Sunday, Davis tallied 79 yards rushing and two touchdowns as well as a career-best six receptions for 26 yards. The Chiefs are next scheduled to travel to face the Miami Dolphins in Week 3.
