NFL picks, Week 3: Can the Bills and Texans stay undefeated?

Is it possible that the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans can stay undefeated this week? Sure it is, and a few members of SB Nation’s “expert” panel think they will. Our panel weighs in on those two games and the rest of the Week 3 action.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos are the least surprising 2-0 team. Denver’s been a unanimous pick by the SB Nation panel of NFL contributors for two weeks running. The real question for the folks picking the games is whether or not anyone picked the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans to be undefeated at this point in the season. So, did anyone here pick the Bills and Texans to win both of their games so far?

Nope. Everyone picked the Chicago Bears to beat the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, but the Bills were able to pull off the upset. That got a few more people thinking Buffalo could beat Miami last week, despite the Dolphins upsetting the Patriots in their opener. Two people picked the Bills to win last week. The Texans were an easier pick last week, getting all but one vote. They had three panelists picking them the week before that.

So what have we learned about picks? Not a whole lot. It’s an inexact science, half rational thinking, half gut. The Bills are getting three votes to beat the Chargers this week, in Buffalo. The Texans only have one panelist picking against them this week when they play a terrible-looking Giants team.

If you’re looking for an upset special this week, maybe think about picking the Jaguars. The Colts are a unanimous favorite to beat their AFC South mates, but a) the Colts have yet to win a game and b) they’re not playing very well. Neither are the Jaguars. Sure, it sounds crazy, but here we are in a world where the Bills are undefeated and leading the AFC East and the Texans, with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback, have a two-game lead on Luck and the Colts in that division.

What a world we live in.
