The Minnesota Vikings have finally had enough of Jerome Simpson's legal trouble. Hours after news broke that the already-suspended wide receiver was cited for marijuana possession over the summer, the team announced his release Thursday evening.
Jerome Simpson released by Vikings in light of latest arrest
Already sitting through a substance-abuse suspension, the wide receiver provided the final straw with a marijuana-related arrest.

Simpson, who is serving a three-game suspension for repeat violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, faces three misdemeanors -- driving on a limited driver’s license, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and open bottle in a motor vehicle -- related to a traffic stop over the summer in Bloomington, Ind., according to USA Today. Thursday was the first time the incident had been reported by the media. It’s unclear whether the Viking were previously aware of it.
That arrest marked Simpson’s third run-in with the law since 2012. He pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge in March of that year and spent 15 days in jail. He was arrested again last November and pleaded guilty to third-degree DWI and careless driving.
The Vikings looked past those legal issues during the offseason, signing him to a one-year, $1 million contract in March.
