— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 2, 2014 Josh Brent has 5 days to appeal. Any prohibited alcohol-related conduct will likely result in immediate suspension, potential NFL banishment
— Ed Werder (@Edwerderespn) September 2, 2014 Brent has not played in an NFL game since the 2012 season. He was suspended from the league after being convicted of intoxication manslaughter following his involvement in a car accident that killed his teammate Jerry Brown on Dec. 8, 2012. Brent announced his retirement in July 2013, and spent four and a half months in jail. He met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in early August to discuss his potential reinstatement.
The Cowboys have a bye in Week 11, which means Brent's first game with the team could come against the New York Giants in Week 12. The Cowboys would have six regular season games left in which Brent could appear, which could make him an important addition down the stretch in the race for the NFC East.
For a team that’s sorely lacking up front defensively, the reinstatement of Brent could come at a good time.
