Danny Woodhead is done for the year, as an ankle injury suffered by the San Diego Chargers running back will require surgery to repair.
Danny Woodhead out for the year due to ankle injury
Danny Woodhead will not return to action in 2014 after he was carted off Sunday with an ankle injury.

Chargers coach Mike McCoy says Danny Woodhead (ankle) is out for year. Big blow to offense.
— Michael Gehlken (@UTgehlken) September 22, 2014 Woodhead, 29, was carted off the field on Sunday after sustaining the injury on his first carry of the game in the first quarter of the team's 22-10 victory over the Buffalo Bills. The running back did not return and reportedly left Ralph Wilson Stadium on crutches.
The 5’8 running back signed a two-year contract extension with the Chargers in July. With that tacked onto the two-year, $3.5 million deal he inked in March 2013, he is under contract with San Diego through the 2016 season. He finishes the 2014 campaign with just 38 yards rushing on 15 attempts, as well as five receptions for 34 yards.
Woodhead's injury, coupled with a knee injury for Ryan Mathews, means the Chargers will have to rely on former Colts running back Donald Brown to handle the duties until Mathews returns. Undrafted rookie Branden Oliver is the only other running back currently on the Chargers' roster.
