Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has never been shy about his optimism for his team's season, his coaches or his players. He's openly talked about making it into the playoffs and making it to the Super Bowl every season for the past several years and the Cowboys haven't come close in some time. That's why it was so surprising that he admitted the Cowboys were facing an "uphill battle" prior to the start of the regular season.
Jerry Jones says Cowboys can’t be overlooked after 2-1 start
Despite not being particularly optimistic when talking to the media in the preseason, Jerry Jones is now singing a different tune after a 2-1 start for the Cowboys.

Had his confidence waned? He made it pretty clear that the Cowboys are not in an ideal situation. But after three games of the regular season, Jones is back to his normal, expectant self. After losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the season opener, the Cowboys looked solid in wins over the Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams, and Jones is now saying that folks shouldn't overlook the Cowboys, according to the Star-Telegram.
“I think we’ve shown some things that would cause you to hold in discounting us,” Jones said, “That’s an awkward way of saying that we should be looked at out of the corner of peoples’ eye.” Jones said that on his weekly radio show, and from there talked about getting players back from injury and how the Cowboys haven’t had their best defensive players thus far this season.
“We need to be glanced at over here,” Jones said.
It should be noted, however, that the Cowboys are no strangers to solid 2-1 starts. Over the past three seasons, the Cowboys have started out 2-1, and in each year, they finished the season at 8-8, just short of the playoffs. The NFC East has been one of the least-impressive divisions in football and the Cowboys have continually failed to capitalize on that, despite strong starts to the season.
Prior to 2011, the Cowboys went 1-2 in 2010 and finished at 6-10. The 2009 season was the last time they made the playoffs -- they started 2-1 and finished with an 11-5 record. But the past three seasons shows us that a 2-1 start is good, but not necessarily an indication that the Cowboys are better off than expected.
