Cam Newton has struggled to find success in the red zone during his NFL career, and his former teammate, Steve Smith, thinks he knows why. Smith has told friends that Newton doesn't think fast enough to succeed in the red zone, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Steve Smith questions Cam Newton’s ability to think fast
Newton can’t think fast enough to succeed in the red zone, according to his former teammate.
Calling your ex-quarterback mentally slow is some quality bulletin board material.
Smith hasn't exactly been soft-spoken in his criticism of his former team since the Carolina Panthers released him over the offseason. With the Panthers coming to Baltimore to take on his new team, the Ravens, more potshots were to be expected.
Newton’s mental capabilities can be debated, but there’s no doubt that he’s had his share of problems inside the 20. For his career, he’s completed just 44 percent of his passes in the red zone, according to Rapoport. At the same time, Newton’s size and athleticism makes him one of the best goal line rushing threats in the league (he has 28 career rushing touchdowns).
Let’s just get Smith on the field against the Panthers already and watch the blood and guts.
