It’s the first week of byes, but that doesn’t mean Sunday will be devoid of some hard-hitting action. The San Francisco 49ers picked up a much-needed win over the Eagles. The Vikings sailed past the Falcons, and San Diego won again in late action.
Jerry Jones admits Weeden is no Brees

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY SportsWhile Jones was mostly complimentary of Weeden’s play, he also described the quarterback as “limited.” Via the Fort Worth Star Telegram:
Jones previously said that a concussion for Weeden in training camp “limited him for a period of time,” but Weeden was a full participant in practice all week and didn’t appear to get injured during the game, so “limited” instead looks like Jones changing his tune from previous comments when he described Weeden as anything but limited.

NFL fans are a passionate bunch. Seeing a NFL fan vent after their team gives up an 80-yard touchdown on a botched defensive assignment in overtime is totally normal.
But it’s a little different when the fan venting about their team is the governor of the state of Texas, Greg Abbott. It’s a little more different when they vent about their team by comparing them to an issue that’s very near and dear to residents of the state:

Slow starts are nothing new for Miami. Even in the team’s only win of the season, the Dolphins were shut out in the first quarter against Washington before finally scoring enough to win in the fourth quarter. A 10-0 start for the Jets extended those opening quarter woes to 37-3 on the year.
The penalties were two of 14 on the day for the Jets, who finished with a total of 163 penalty yards, which wasn’t far off from the 226 yards of offense tallied by the Dolphins, mostly coming in the fourth quarter. Dan Fouts captured the mood early in the game:

What happened Sunday

David Banks49ers outlast Eagles, 26-21

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY SportsThe Eagles’ offense came alive in crunch time, however. A spectacular catch threatened to flip momentum. With the Eagles down five points and facing a long third down with three minutes to go, Jeremy Maclin made a one-handed grab deep down the sideline to keep a pivotal drive alive. 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh challenged the play, but upon review it was determined that Maclin kept control inbounds.
The Eagles drove down to within the 5-yard line, but the offensive line gave Foles little time on a fourth-down rollout, and Foles’ pass sailed well high of its intended target, giving the ball back to San Francisco with under two minutes remaining.

Update:
If Davis’ injury is serious, the 49ers will likely need to make a move to add some depth. Tight End Asante Cleveland is currently on San Francisco’s practice squad. He was added to the active roster last week, before being moved back to the practice squad this week. He may be in line to get re-signed to the active roster.

Usually when you’re punting you want to avoid punting the ball directly into a teammate’s ass:
Close quarters are no fun for punters, nor linemen’s butts, apparently. BUTTPUNT got the Eagles a touchdown, but it got the Niners a warm place in our hearts.

Through four games, Watt’s legend is approaching folk-lore status. He entered the game with two sacks, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick. He added five more tackles to his 10 tackles on the season entering the game. The most impressive play of the game was easily his pick-six. Watt somehow high-pointed a pass that was thrown a few yards in front of his faces, and, at 289 pounds, outran everyone to the end zone.
The Bills didn’t have Watt, however. The former Wisconsin walk-on was perhaps the biggest game changer in the NFL on the day.
