Patriots vs. Chiefs, Monday Night Football: Odds, preview and pick

Monday Night features a small home underdog against a struggling public team. The Pats are favored by less than a FG vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots are 6-2 straight up and 5-3 against the spread in their last eight games against the Kansas City Chiefs. New England is on the road on Monday night visiting Kansas City for the first time since 2005. The Patriots are a 2.5-point road favorite on Monday night according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

New England has enjoyed success against Kansas City in the past, but Tom Brady’s recent struggles could make the Chiefs a possible upset pick as home dogs of +2.5.

Odds Shark Computer Prediction: 32-27 Patriots (full preview)

One of the biggest storylines surrounding New England’s 2-1 SU and 1-2 ATS start is the play of Tom Brady. Despite going up against three subpar teams so far this year on the road against Miami and Minnesota and at home against Oakland, Brady is having an awful season so far with just 632 passing yards and three passing touchdowns with three fumbles.

New England is also just 2-6 ATS in its last eight games as a road favorite.

Kansas City hosts the New England Patriots at 8:30pm ET for Monday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium.

After starting the season off with an ugly 26-10 home loss to Tennessee, Kansas City has bounced back nicely with a respectable road effort at Denver and a 34-15 win at Miami to go 2-0 ATS over its last two games.

The Chiefs’ offense will receive a nice boost on Monday night with Jamaal Charles set to return from an ankle injury he suffered in the loss to Tennessee. The Chiefs will try to break out of an 0-6 ATS slump in their last six games at home.

The total has gone UNDER in each of the last four meetings between these two teams and in eight of New England’s last 10 games against AFC West opponents. Monday night’s total is set at 47 points at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

If Tom Brady returns to his usual form this Monday night, the Patriots should be able to pick up a win and a cover at Arrowhead. But with Brady struggling and the Chiefs playing well, Kansas City looks like a live dog as a 2.5-point underdog at home.
