Tom Brady breaks Joe Montana’s record with his 46th postseason touchdown pass

Brady added another record to his Hall of Fame resume on Saturday, taking over the mantle for most playoff touchdown throws.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady set the all-time record for playoff passing touchdowns on Saturday. He found Brandon LaFell in the AFC Divisional matchup against the Baltimore Ravens for his third touchdown of the game and 46th postseason TD of his career. Brady has surpassed the previous record of 45 set by Joe Montana, as well as Brett Favre's total of 44.

Since becoming a starter in 2001, Brady has been in the playoffs 12 of 14 seasons, only missing in 2002 and 2008. The University of Michigan product is a model of consistency -- including Saturday, he's thrown for at least one touchdown in 23 of his 27 playoff games, including 14 contests with multiple scores. Brady's best effort was against the Tim Tebow-led Denver Broncos in the 2011 AFC Divisional round, when he threw for six touchdowns in a 45-10 win.

Brady’s finest postseason came in 2004, when the Patriots won their third championship in four years. Brady threw five touchdowns without an interception, including two games with quarterback ratings north of 110.

Montana only played in 23 playoff games, but he had at least two touchdown passes in 14 of them. Arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, Montana put together a postseason for the ages in 1989 when he led the 49ers to a Super Bowl XXIV victory. During that playoff run, Montana threw for 11 touchdowns without an interception and had a QB rating over 125 in each contest. The year prior, when San Francisco won Super Bowl XXIII, Montana tossed eight touchdowns with one pick.
