Trent Richardson made a healthy scratch for Colts-Broncos

The Colts will leave Trent Richardson on the sideline for their most important game of the season to date.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Trent Richardson is inactive for Sunday's playoff game between the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. No, the running back isn't hurt. He was made a healthy scratch after an ineffective season. He played just one last snap last week against the Cincinnati Bengals. On Sunday, the Colts removed any pretense that Richardson is still part of the team's gameplan.

Richardson has not recorded a reception or carry since Week 17, when he had six carries for just 11 yards and one reception for nine yards. During the regular season, he had 159 carries for 519 yards -- an average of 3.3 yards per carry. In 2013, the Colts gave the Cleveland Browns a first-round pick for the running back.

Against the Bengals, the Colts were able to establish an effective running game, which is something they have struggled to do at times this season. Daniel "Boom" Herron and Zurlon Tipton combined for 23 carries and 96 yards on the ground, for an average of 4.17 yards per carry against a good defensive front.

Just how finished is Richardson?
