Following the offseason departure of Kyle Shanahan, the Cleveland Browns are looking for a sixth offensive coordinator in as many years and the seventh since Joe Thomas was drafted by the team in 2007. On Tuesday, the left tackle said that's too much change and that he's hopeful the Browns' offense can finally find some continuity.
Joe Thomas disappointed with another Browns offensive coordinator change
The Browns have had nonstop change on the offensive side of the ball since Joe Thomas was drafted and he wants some continuity.

Thomas has also had five different head coaches and 14 different starting quarterbacks during his time in Cleveland. That lack of stability has been costly for the Browns, who have failed to make the playoffs in Thomas’ time in the NFL. However, the eight-time Pro Bowler is hopeful that with Mike Pettine staying at the helm, they’ll find more offensive success.
With Shanahan calling the plays, the team finished 23rd in total offense and 27th in the NFL in total points scored, but Thomas told Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal that the offensive coordinator “did a good job” and that his departure was disappointing.
“I think the most important thing is keeping the same head coach and the same GM because that’s not something we’ve had for a long time,” Thomas said. “Obviously we wish we had some continuity on the offensive side of the ball. But it wasn’t meant to be this year, and that’s OK because whoever coach Pettine is going to bring in here I’m excited to learn what his offense is. And judging by the last hires that coach Pettine has made, we’re going to get an excellent offensive coordinator.”
Thomas has started every game possible for the Browns since he was selected with the third overall draft pick, but the team has finished 24th or worse in scoring in every season except his rookie year.
Among the names linked to the offensive coordinator job in Cleveland are former Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman, Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, New York Jets assistant head coach Anthony Lynn and former Notre Dame and Kansas head coach Charlie Weis.
