Earl Thomas doesn’t believe Aaron Rodgers is injured
The All-Pro safety has doubts on the validity of Rodgers’ calf ailment.
The Seattle Seahawks are prepping to play the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, with a large portion of focus on quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has been playing with a torn calf muscle for weeks, but don't tell Seattle safety Earl Thomas that. On Thursday, Thomas said he does not believe Rodgers is actually injured, per Pro Football Talk.
“I’m not buying into this leg issue,” safety Earl Thomas told reporters on Thursday. “I’m not buying into it. I saw him scramble close to the goal line on the Cowboys, so he’s not fooling me with that.”
Assuming Thomas watched the film of Rodgers' performance against the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Divisional playoffs last weekend, it is hard to imagine he believes his own statement. Rodgers threw for 316 yards and led a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter, but was clearly limited. Known for his ability to scramble out of the pocket, Rodgers almost never budged from his spot.
Linebacker K.J. Wright is also taking the same approach Thomas is, hoping to beat Rodgers and the Packers for the second time this season after drubbing them in Week 1.
"We know he’s a little banged up but he looks just fine to me in that last game — he was making most of his throws, he didn’t scramble as much and get out of the pocket as he’s done in the past, but for the most part, he’s making all of his throws and he looks just fine," linebacker K.J. Wright told reporters. "So we’re going to treat him like he’s healthy and like he’s 100 percent."
Kickoff is at 3 p.m. ET on FOX.
