Wind and rain, that is what all four teams will face today in the final two games before the Super Bowl. Even thought these games will be played on opposite sides of the United States they will both feature similar weather conditions.
NFL conference championship weather forecast: It’s all about that rain
With just four teams and two games left to decide the Super Bowl, we take a look at how weather could factor into the equation.
First game of the day is in Seattle where the Green Bay Packers face off against the Seahawks and the 12th Man Legion of Boom. It won’t be an “Ice Bowl” for the Packers and Seahawks, but it will be rainy, windy Seattle weather. An absolute soaker is not expected for the entire game, but areas of rain and scattered showers are likely. At times winds could gust into the low- to mid-20 mph range. Temperatures are not bad for the game as they will be in the low 50s.
Packers vs. Seahawks - Sunday 3:05 p.m. ET, FOX
FORECAST: Scattered rain showers, windy with gusts between 20 and 25 mph.
Winds: Southwest 15-25 mph
Kickoff - 52
Half Time - 52
Second Half - 51
The AFC Championship in Foxborough, Mass. could actually be messier and wetter than it’s West Coast counterpart. A storm system riding up the coast will bring strong gusty winds of 25 to 35 mph, lots of rain -- which could be heavy at times -- and the possibility of thunder and lightning. In the case of the latter weather, the NFL has been known to delay a game because of the threat of lightning in the area. The radar will need to be watched.
This isn’t a typical January game in Foxborough as we are not dealing with cold and snow, but rain and wind. It should be interesting to see how both Andrew Luck and Tom Brady handle the wet and windy conditions.
