Trent Richardson missed the Indianapolis Colts' walkthrough Saturday due to a family emergency. Richardson said the matter is "very serious" and he is still at a hospital dealing with it.
Trent Richardson missed walkthrough because of family emergency
Trent Richardson says he is dealing with a serious family issue, which forced him to miss a team activity Saturday.

The Colts announced Saturday Richardson would not travel with the team to the AFC Championship due to personal reasons. Bob Kravitz of WTHR.com reported Richardson missed the Colts' walkthrough that morning without notifying the team, and that's why Richardson wouldn't be traveling to Foxborough. Richardson was a healthy scratch against the Denver Broncos in the Divisional round. According to Kravitz, Richardson was not expected to dress against the Patriots Sunday.
Richardson had previously stated he expected to be the starter against the Patriots and he did not anticipate being inactive again after being scratched. Richardson told Bob Wells of ESPN he wouldn’t purposely miss a walkthrough and that he would have been there had the family matter not occurred.
”I had to miss walkthrough. I’m dealing with a very serious family emergency. I’m still at the hospital. I wouldn’t purposely just miss walkthrough.
“I wouldn’t just purposely turn my back on the team. I would have been there if I wasn’t dealing with this issue.”
Kravitz stood by his report, saying Richardson could be dealing with a personal issue in addition to not notifying the team of his absence:
It's certainly possible Trent Richardson had a family issue, as per @HolderStephen but my source said he missed walkthrough and didn't call.
— Bob Kravitz (@bkravitz) January 18, 2015 It's entirely possible both things are true, that it's a medical issue and he didn't notify team. Two things are not mutually exclusive
— Bob Kravitz (@bkravitz) January 18, 2015 Richardson has been an on-field disappointment for the Colts the last two seasons after being acquired from the Cleveland Browns for a first-round pick. Though healthy, he rushed for 519 yards at just 3.3 yards per carry in 2014. The Colts will owe Richardson $3.1 million in 2015 and will have to pay him the full amount unless they can find a team willing to trade for him.
