The Seattle Seahawks are ready to give Marshawn Lynch an extension, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Though Lynch is still under contract for the 2015 season, many considered 2014 to be the running back's final year in Seattle due to the $7 million he is due next season. Rapoport believes that the Seahawks brass may now be willing to bring Lynch back at a salary of $5 million per year.

The Seahawks are revisiting their stance on Marshawn Lynch after the running back accounted for more than 1,600 yards from scrimmage this season.

The Seahawks can jettison Lynch and save the $7 million he is due in salary and a roster bonus, while paying just the $1.5 million due to him as part of his prorated signing bonus. Lynch’s performance this season may have made him indispensable, however.
According to Rapoport, speaking on the NFL Network on Sunday morning, Lynch “has outperformed his contract and clearly established himself as the identity of this team. ... Basically, they don’t have a choice based on the way he plays to bring him back.”
Lynch rushed for 1,306 yards and accounted for 1,673 yards for scrimmage -- or, 26.8 percent of Seattle’s total yards from scrimmage this season. The Seahawks ranked first in the NFL with 2,762 yards rushing during the regular season at 5.3 yards per carry.
