Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, said on PFT Live that the league is hoping to resolve the investigation over the next two to three days so that the Super Bowl can once again take center stage. Vincent says the league already has an investigation team in New England interviewing Patriots staff members.
Vincent explains that the reason the NFL is actively pursuing this case is because the league values integrity, via WEEI:
“For a fan, you want to know that everything’€™s equal,” he said. “The integrity of the game is so important.”
Yes, indeed. It’s very comforting to know that the NFL takes the time to thoughtfully handle discipline matters.
Ridiculous Theories
DeflateGate came to light in the hours after the Patriots lopsided victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship. The Colts first suspected the Patriots of slightly deflating balls after D'Qwell Jackson intercepted a pass thrown by Tom Brady in the second quarter. Jackson informed the equipment staff that the ball felt strange and then they informed head coach Chuck Pagano who relayed a message to general manager Ryan Grigson, according to reports. Grigson then sent a message to the NFL's director of football operations, Mike Kensil.
The game’s officials were then seen switching out the game balls following the opening kickoff in the second half.
New England head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady have each denied that the team deflated balls.
