Todd Bowles is beginning to round out his staff as the new head coach of the New York Jets with the announced hiring of Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator.
Chan Gailey named Jets’ offensive coordinator

Gailey provides a very experienced coordinator on the sidelines for Bowles, a first-time head coach. Gailey has served as head coach for the Dallas Cowboys (1998-99) and Buffalo Bills (2010-12) and has extensive experience calling the offensive plays on both the pro and collegiate level, serving as offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers ('97), Miami Dolphins (2000-01) and Kansas City Chiefs (2008-09).
Gailey has a career coaching record of 34-46 in the NFL and a 68-41 record within the college ranks after head coaching stints at Troy, Samford and Georgia Tech.
Bowles was immediately linked to Gailey when he was hired, and Gailey faces a tall order in making sense of the Jets offense. Geno Smith put up great numbers in the season's final game, but the Jets will likely want to make sure other options are available at quarterback heading into next season. The Jets ranked 28th in points scored last season.
With wide receiver Percy Harvin scheduled to make $10.5 million next season, new general manager Mike Maccagnan faces a major financial decision on one of his impact skill players on offense. Eric Decker was the team's leading receiver after coming over from the Denver Broncos last offseason and he returns along with young tight end Jace Amaro to give the Jets at least two other solid targets on offense for Gailey to work with.
Gailey was also reportedly a candidate for the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator opening.
