Adam Gase hired as Bears’ offensive coordinator

Gase follows John Fox from Denver to help right the Chicago offense.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears have decided on their new offensive coordinator with the hiring of Adam Gase, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Gase recently served as the offensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos, and is now reunited with head coach John Fox.

Gase has been a hot name in recent weeks for both head coach and offensive coordinator positions. The 36-year-old has enjoyed a quick rise up the coaching ranks. Starting out as a graduate assistant at LSU in 2000, Gase made it to the NFL in 2003 with the Detroit Lions in the role of scouting assistant. In 2005, Detroit promoted Gase to an offensive assistant before he became the quarterbacks coach in 2007.

Gase worked as an offensive assistant in San Francisco in 2008, and left for Denver after one season and rose from receivers coach, to quarterbacks coach and finally to offensive coordinator in 2013. Under Gase, Denver enjoyed the NFL's top offense in 2013 -- one that set an NFL record for points scored in a season -- and the fourth-ranked unit this year with Peyton Manning under center.

New general manager Ryan Pace hired John Fox to replace Marc Trestman after two miserable seasons. Vic Fangio was the first coordinator to join the staff, and was named the team’s defensive coordinator on Tuesday. They also added former Broncos special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers to the staff on Monday.
