When Dez Bryant made his controveresial non-catch in the Packers’ playoff game against the Cowboys in 2015, there were three groups of people convinced the right call was made: Refereeing analysts, players on the Green Bay Packers, and NFL cornerbacks -- all of whom had a vested interest in agreeing.
Packers CB Sam Shields admits Dez Bryant made that catch
With the Packers’ season over, the guy who guarded Dez Bryant on the controversial play felt free to speak his mind.

Now that the season is over, one guy who falls in two of those categories is breaking party lines:
“It was a catch,” (Packers CB Sam) Shields said, “But the new rule and at the last minute what happened, that’s what the refs came up with. I never said he didn’t catch it. He made a helluva catch I was in great coverage. Like I said, it was good on good and he came up with the catch.”
Shields doesn’t quite say the refs made the wrong call -- it sounds like he credits some confusing circumstances with clouding their judgment.
Both the Packers and Cowboys are out of the playoffs, so this might seem like old news, but it does remind us of the larger problem -- that nobody really agrees about what a catch is.
