Earl Thomas gets HGH test after saying his dislocated shoulder is healed

Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas thinks the NFL’s random drug testing may not be so random.

Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas suffered a dislocated shoulder during the NFC Championship against the Green Bay Packers, but said Wednesday that he's good to go for the Super Bowl and that his shoulder is fully healed. On Thursday, Thomas was among those randomly selected for performance enhancing drug testing, the player said via Twitter:

As you can see above, Thomas didn’t just up and announce he had to get a blood test for HGH, he implied that the process was something other than a random selection, due to his shoulder injury healing so quickly. Certainly, a dislocated shoulder typically takes a bit longer to heal, but Thomas being well enough to think he’s at or close to 100 percent isn’t unheard of.

It seems unlikely the league would be motivated by this in any case, though how they pick the players who partake in the random testing is unknown. Testing for HGH -- human growth hormone -- is actually very new in the league, with an agreement between the NFL and NFL Players Association coming earlier this season.

Whatever happened to cause Thomas to be one of the players selected, it’s clear he doesn’t think too highly of the tests, calling them a “league office distraction.”

The Seahawks aren’t very happy about the NFL testing Thomas either.
