It's a big week for Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. Of course, it's a big week for every player on that roster and everybody in that organization, but Sherman is (presumably) the only one who is days away from the birth of his son.
Super Bowl 2015: Richard Sherman awaits birth of son, hopes it won’t happen Sunday
Richard Sherman is expecting the birth of his son any day now, but is confident it won’t come until after the Super Bowl.

Sherman's girlfriend, Ashley Moss, is expected to give birth to their son "in the next week," according to ESPN. Sherman said on Wednesday that doctors ensured him that his son will not arrive "in the next few days," meaning the baby is expected after the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots on Sunday. But if the moment does come sooner than expected, Moss is in Arizona, as the game will be played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
It’s hard to imagine anything getting in the way of a guy like Sherman playing in a game as big as the Super Bowl, though when asked what would happen if Moss goes into labor on Sunday, Sherman said that they will “Cross that bridge when we get there,” and that they’re not thinking about that right now.
“He’s going to be a disciplined young man and stay in there,” Sherman said, via Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, “He’s going to do his father his first favor.”
Things seem to be working out well for the cornerback, all things considered. He's among the best players on one of the best teams in the league, which is looking to be the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the Patriots did so a decade ago. He's also practicing in full and doesn't appear to be hampered by the elbow he sprained in the NFC Championship.
The birth of his son will serve as extra motivation in the big game, Sherman said. Sherman said that he wants to set a “great example” for his son by winning on Sunday. It’s hard to imagine having a better story to tell your child when he’s old enough to understand it.
