Katy Perry will roar onto the halftime stage at Super Bowl 49, with special guest Lenny Kravitz alongside. Both have a flair for the grandiose, so there should be little worry whether the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show will live up to its spectacular expectations. Those hoping for a spectacle when the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots play are going to get it, one way or another.

Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz will be rocking the stage at halftime of Super Bowl 49. Here’s how you can watch.
Perry is one of the music industry’s biggest pop stars, known not only for best-selling music but also her outrageous fashion choices and larger-than-life persona. She rose to fame in 2008 with the release of her second album, One of the Boys, which spawned hit singles such as “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot n Cold.” Her third album was titled Teenage Dream, and featured five No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including the super-popular “California Gurls” and “Firework.” Perry is the first female artist to produce an album that had five chart-topping songs. Her most recent album, Prism, was released in 2013 and has yielded the No. 1 singles “Roar” and “Dark Horse.”

Perry is no stranger to the sports world after making a guest appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay this fall. She was in Oxford, Miss. when Ole Miss beat Alabama, correctly picking the upset during the pregame show, and was spotted chugging beer and diving off bars after the game. She is a noted sports fan and popular entertainer, a seemingly perfect fit to headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
At a press conference Thursday, Perry promised to deliver an exciting, colorful performance and even hinted at a surprise guest who will join her on stage for “a real female-fun night.” Shortly after, the AP reported that the unannounced guest would be five-time Grammy winner Missy Elliott.
Kravitz is the other headline performer alongside Perry on the stage Sunday night. The 50-year-old musician is a bona fide rock ‘n roll icon, a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter who incorporates everything from rock to funk to R&B and reggae into his genre-defying music. This will not be Kravitz’s first foray in the sports world. He played at a Jets-Patriots game on Thanksgiving, and at the CFL’s Grey Cup game in recent years. He is also widely known for his elaborate stage performances, which should make for a spectacular show with the outrageous and eccentric Perry.
The Super Bowl halftime show has featured some strong performances lately, with Prince (2007) and Beyonce (2013) topping SB Nation’s list of the best halftime shows ever. Perry has a big legacy to uphold, but she has proven she is plenty capable. She’s performed in front national audiences on a number of occasions, most notably at the Grammys and the Billboard Music Awards. Here’s how to watch the Super Bowl 49 halftime show:
