Former Buffalo Bills' head coach Doug Marrone did not approve of the trade that landed Sammy Watkins and stormed out of the draft room when the deal was made, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The trade sent Buffalo's first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft to the Cleveland Browns and allowed the Bills to move up from No. 9 to No. 4 in the 2014 NFL Draft to select Watkins. In his rookie season, Watkins finished with 65 receptions for 982 yards and six touchdowns, but the team finished just shy of the postseason despite a 9-7 record.

Marrone opted out of his contract with the Bills last week and there were rumors that internal conflict with the team’s front office was at the core of his departure. One report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports said Marrone got in a public shouting match with Bills’ director of player personnel Jim Monos and team president Russ Brandon, in addition to a report that his relationship with general manager Doug Whaley was “beyond repair.“

The Bills finished with a winning record for the first time since 2004 and were led by the No. 4 defense in the NFL, but finished with the NFL's 26th-ranked offense. Marrone is currently a head coaching candidate for the Atlanta Falcons as well as the New York Jets, where he is considered "a favorite" for the position.
