Ndamukong Suh could return to Detroit next season, per report

The Lions could still make a play for impending free agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Ndamukong Suh could be playing in his final game with the Detroit Lions Sunday when they visit the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs. However, the team might not be out of the conversation to keep the defensive tackle after he tests free agency, per to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

According to the report, the Lions hope Suh will hit the free agency market to gauge his value before coming back to Detroit. Suh has already been to three Pro Bowls and was selected for a fourth in December, so that’s a risky strategy for the Lions that could end with the lineman signing with the highest bidder.

Many changes have occurred with the Lions since they drafted Suh with the No. 2 pick in 2010. When the two sides tried to talk about a new contract in the offseason, those negotiations didn’t net anything tangible, leaving a blurry future between the team and Suh.

A report from ESPN's Adam Schefter in September indicated the Lions would not pursue a new contract with Suh and that the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys could be front runners for the defensive tackle in free agency. Schefter also highlighted the New York Giants and New York Jets as places where Suh showed interest in signing.

Suh finished the 2014 regular season with 8.5 sacks, the most since he tallied 10 sacks as a rookie in 2010. In five seasons with the Lions, Suh has started 78 of a possible 80 games and racked up 36 sacks.
