Junior Galette arrested for domestic violence, per report

Galette was arrested on Monday morning after a disturbance at his Louisiana home.

New Orleans Saints outside linebacker Junior Galette is in custody after he was arrested on Monday morning following a disturbance at his home in Kenner, La., a Kenner police spokesman told The Times-Picayune.

Kenner police said in a press conference that Galette was arrested for shoving an unnamed 22-year-old woman to the ground during a domestic dispute at his home, according to Ramon Antonio Vargas of The Advocate. The woman had an earring ripped out and was bleeding when police arrived.

The dispute reportedly began when the woman, who had spent the night at Galette’s house, wanted cab fare for a ride home on Monday morning. She claims that Galette and his cousin, who was also arrested, “jumped her.” Police say she armed herself with a knife, but after putting it down, was picked up and carried outside.

She claimed that as she attempted to dial 911, Galette’s cousin took her phone from her.

The woman described herself as a personal assistant and ex-girlfriend. Galette, who disputed her allegations, said she was a dancer that he’d given permission to spend the night.

Galette reportedly filmed part of the incident on his phone. Police are working to obtain that recording.

Galette and his cousin were booked with simple battery.

Under the NFL’s new personal conduct policy, the arrest could result in an immediate suspension for Galette:

Violations involving assault, battery, domestic violence or sexual assault will result in a baseline six-game suspension for first offenses.

An NFL spokesman said Monday that the league is looking into the incident.

Galette signed a six-year contract with the Saints in September and is due a $12.5 million roster bonus on March 12 in addition to his $1.25 million base salary. Releasing Galette would account for $16.2 million in dead money though, making any roster move involving the outside linebacker unlikely.

In five seasons with the Saints, Galette has accumulated 31.5 sacks, including 22 sacks in the last two seasons after he was inserted in the starting lineup in 2013.
