Matthew Stafford yelled ‘home cookin’!’ after overturned pass interference call

Matthew Stafford was just as miffed as the rest of us after referees overturned a pass interference penalty during Sunday’s wild card game between the Cowboys and Lions.

Matthew Stafford has not been vocal about the overturned pass interference call that helped the Dallas Cowboys beat the Detroit Lions in Dallas last Sunday since the game ended. On the field, however, he apparently was as flabbergasted as Detroit fans.

Stafford wore a mic during the game for Showtime’s Inside the NFL, and gave referees a piece of his mind following their ruling. According to CBS Sports, the Lions quarterback repeatedly shouted “home cookin’!” on the sideline immediately following the call. Between snaps, he tracked down officials to tell them what he thought.

“That’s unbelievable ... and you know it,” Stafford reportedly said. “You know it is, though ... How does that get overturned? ... Congratulations. It’s unbelievable.”

Stafford, like others, was miffed as to why the refs provided no explanation for picking up the flag. Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens appeared to make contact with Brandon Pettigrew before a would-be third down conversion pass intended for the Lions tight end fell incomplete.

“Can we explain that or no?” Stafford asks. “Just flat out overturning a pass interference call?” An official then mentions face guarding to Stafford, and the quarterback responds: “I understand, but your man saw it and threw a penalty.... I understand that... But I’ve never in the history seen one turned over. Congratulations, man. First time in history that’s happened.”
