Marshawn Lynch loses appeal, will have to pay $100K fine

This won’t help his relationship with the media.

Marshawn Lynch has lost his appeal and will be forced to pay a $100,000 fine for not speaking to the media, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Lynch was fined $50,000 for not speaking to reporters after the Seattle Seahawks' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11 and was fined an additional $50,000 relating to a prior instance when he failed to meet his media requirements.

Lynch left the locker room after the Chiefs game without providing media availability, but called two NFL Network reporters believing that would satisfy his media responsibility. It didn’t, and the league levied a $50,000 fine, which triggered an additional $50,000 fine from last season. The NFL did not force Lynch to pay last year’s fine as long as he cooperated with the media, and when he didn’t, the league brought it back.

The decision to do so did not sit well with the Seahawks locker room. Richard Sherman was hostile with reporters and told them to prepare for his media availability when he subsequently acted out a two-minute skit pointing out the NFL's hypocrisy to fine Lynch such a substantial amount for a violation so small.

Lynch responded in his own way, by answering the media’s questions with one-word responses and thanking reporters for asking him questions.
