The Chicago Bears started the season with three consecutive losses, and they could easily be 0-5, if not for two miraculous comeback wins in back-to-back weeks. Chicago is now 2-3, putting together excellent fourth-quarter comebacks against the Oakland Raiders in Week 4 and again against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Bears shock Chiefs for second straight 4th-quarter comeback win
The Chicago Bears were 0-3, but two straight fourth-quarter comebacks have them at 2-3 heading into Week 6.
Trailing with just over two minutes to go in a 17-12 game, the Bears took over at their own 33-yard line and drove down to the Kansas City 7-yard line in eight plays. With 23 seconds on the clock, the Bears showed a glimpse of the team that was 0-3 to start the season as quarterback Jay Cutler fumbled the snap.
Then, however, he managed to pick it up and toss it to running back Matt Forte, who scored a 7-yard touchdown to give the Bears a win:
The Chiefs threatened a comeback when Alex Smith hit Jeremy Maclin for 23 yards, but they were forced to attempt a long field goal of 66 yards, which was missed. Chicago took the narrow 18-17 victory home.
In Week 4, Cutler was playing in just his second full game of the season after getting hurt in Week 2. There were six lead changes in that game, the last coming with two seconds to play when Robbie Gould kicked the game-winning field goal. That final drive saw Cutler complete five passes, including a fourth-down conversion to Martellus Bennett.
Cutler has four touchdowns and an interception over the past two games, and the Bears are looking good going into a Week 6 game against the Detroit Lions. Even though Chicago's two victories weren't against the top team in the league, a win in Detroit would set Chicago up with a 3-3 record heading into the bye week.
That's probably not going to be enough for them to keep pace with the Green Bay Packers -- the team they lost to in Week 1 -- but it would certainly be a good start. The Bears have tough late-season games against the Denver Broncos and the Packers, so they'll take any win however they can get it, even if it's in such dramatic fashion.
