Bears vs. Lions 2015 picks and predictions: Detroit poised to get off the schneid

The Lions are coming off their most humiliating defeat of the season, but they are projected to get their first win of the year Sunday against the Bears.

One thing the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions have in common is they've both been decimated by the Arizona Cardinals this season. Chicago lost to Arizona 48-23 in Week 2, and the Lions are coming off an ugly 42-17 drubbing at the hands of the Cardinals in Week 5.

The Bears have recovered since then, winning two consecutive games. The Lions, meanwhile, are currently the only winless team in the league. Whether they’ll suffer their sixth loss of the season Sunday is up in the air.

Jay Cutler has impressed since returning from a hamstring injury two weeks ago. He's thrown for 533 yards with four touchdowns and only one interception during this two-game Bears winning streak, even though his receiving corps has been ravaged by injuries. Alshon Jeffery, Eddie Royal and first-round pick Kevin White have all missed time this season.

Last week, Cutler led the Bears to an 18-17, come-from-behind victory over the Kansas City Chiefs with a couple of late scoring drives. The game-winning touchdown came when he found Matt Forte in the corner of the end zone with 18 seconds left in regulation.

Those kinds of late-game heroics have eluded Matthew Stafford this year, and he has thrown a league-leading eight interceptions. His 74.8 quarterback rating is also his lowest since his rookie campaign. Stafford was pulled for backup Dan Orlovsky during Sunday's contest against the Cardinals, but head coach Jim Caldwell made it clear after the game that Stafford would remain the starter.

But if the Lions are going to get off the schneid, it might as well happen against the Bears. Though Chicago’s defense has played better over the last couple of weeks, its struggles earlier in the season can’t be easily forgotten. The Bears allowed 35 points per game and 331 yards per contest during their 0-3 start.

Six of our eight experts here at SB Nation think the Lions will capture their first win of the season Sunday. Six of CBS’s eight analysts are picking Detroit as well.
