Antonio Brown’s 5/50 receiving streak ends at 35 games

Antonio Brown went 35 games with at least five catches and at least 50 yards, but that streak ended on Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown had a pretty significant streak going heading into Thursday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, but that streak came to an end when he failed to eclipse 50 yards. Brown had a streak of 35 consecutive regular season games with at least five catches and at least 50 yards, but on Thursday he finished with five catches for 42 yards.

The Steelers also lost the game, 23-20, in overtime after Josh Scobee missed a pair of field goals.

Mike Vick got the start at quarterback for Pittsburgh, due to Ben Roethlisberger sustaining a knee injury after he was hit low in Week 3 against the St. Louis Rams. Brown is Roethlisberger's favorite target by a wide margin, and everyone knew the streak was in jeopardy when he went down with the injury.

Vick played well on Thursday, not committing any huge mistakes but also not putting up big yardage. He completed 19 of 26 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. Brown was targeted nine times on the day, but he couldn’t get the extra 8 yards he needed, even with 10 minutes of overtime. There were multiple targets where Brown was either covered well or couldn’t come down with the ball, so it’s not all on Vick, of course.

Whatever the case, Brown's streak ends and it ends well ahead of the player in second place as far as consecutive games with five catches and 50 yards -- Laveranues Coles did it for 19 straight games.
