NFL picks against the spread, Week 7: Hopefully not too many home favorites in SuperContest

I’m taking part in the 2015 SuperContest with the folks at OddsShark, so it is time to take you along for the ride. Here are my Week 7 picks against the spread.

Welcome back for Week 7 of the 2015 NFL season. The return of the NFL means gambling is back in our lives. The NFL might frown upon it, but gambling and fantasy football are two of the biggest reasons for the NFL’s insane level of popularity. I think they’ll put up with it.

This year I am back for another crack at the LVH SuperContest. The contest includes over 1,400 participants picking games each week to see who can come out on top. Our partners at OddsShark have staked myself and a handful of other participants in the SuperContest. You can track all of us here, and you can follow the standings here.

The contest involves picking five games each week, for 17 weeks. You get to choose which five games you will pick. The lines are locked in Wednesday evening, and picks are submitted by the end of the week. I am currently sitting at 21-8-1. I put together a 3-2 week, a slight slip from 3-1-1 the week before. Hopefully things don’t slip further this week. Here are my five picks for Week 7.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-1.5) over Pittsburgh Steelers

This is more about picking against the Steelers than picking the Chiefs. Kansas City has lost five straight both straight up and against the spread. However, the Steelers are likely rolling out Landry Jones for the start. Ben Roethlisberger is listed as questionable, but odds are not good he plays. If Jones plays, I just don't think he can positively build on his Week 6 performance in relief of Mike Vick. This might be the only time I am remotely comfortable picking the Chiefs. If this does work out, I am sure I'll have to sweat it out late.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (-4.5) over New Orleans Saints

The Saints have lost their last three road games, and their team as a whole seems to be a question mark. Add in the Colts being a strong team coming off a loss, and I'll take my chances. A lot will depend on the state of Andrew Luck's shoulder. He is going to start, but there are always concerns with quarterback shoulder injuries. I'll take my chances picking against New Orleans on the road.

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (-4) over Oakland Raiders

The Raiders off the bye are intriguing, but not against an elite quarterback. Oakland is playing some quality football, but I don't think its defense can hang with the Chargers' offense. One scary number is that the Raiders are 9-1 ATS in their last ten games as an underdog to the Chargers. That is not ideal, but I guess I'll roll the dice.

CAROLINA PANTHERS (-3) over Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are coming off a big win over the New York Giants, and the Panthers are coming off an arguably bigger win over the Seattle Seahawks. The Panthers are 8-2 ATS in their last ten October games, and I don't have a lot of faith in Sam Bradford against a solid Panthers defense.

ARIZONA CARDINALS (-7.5) over Baltimore Ravens

This line has climbed up to 10 in some sportsbooks, so I was most definitely going to take the 7.5-points on Monday Night Football. Primetime favorites have not fared well this year, but the Ravens are just not a good team. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers, and the 49ers are an awful team. Crazy things can happen, but this just strikes me as a game in which the Ravens get thumped.

Here are all my picks for Week 7 (5-9 last week, 48-39-3 overall):

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS vs. Seattle Seahawks (-6.5): 49ers - Loss
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS vs. Buffalo Bills (-5.5 - London): Bills
ST. LOUIS RAMS vs. Cleveland Browns (+5.5): Rams
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (+1.5): Chiefs
MIAMI DOLPHINS vs. Houston Texans (+4): Dolphins
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS vs. New York Jets (+9): Jets
DETROIT LIONS vs. Minnesota Vikings (-2.5): Vikings
TENNESSEE TITANS vs. Atlanta Falcons (-4.5): Falcons
WASHINGTON vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3): Washington
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS vs. New Orleans Saints (+4.5): Colts
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS vs. Oakland Raiders (+4): Chargers
NEW YORK GIANTS vs. Dallas Cowboys (+3.5): Cowboys
CAROLINA PANTHERS vs. Philadelphia Eagles (+3): Panthers
ARIZONA CARDINALS vs. Baltimore Ravens (+7.5): Cardinals
