New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady keeps piling on the career milestones, adding yet another one to the record books on Sunday against the New York Jets. Brady became the fifth player in NFL history to reach 55,000 career passing yards, joining the likes of Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and Drew Brees.
Tom Brady becomes 5th player to reach 55,000 passing yards
Tom Brady continues mixing with elite company by becoming the fifth player in NFL history to reach 55,000 career passing yards.
After Sunday’s game, Brady sits at 55,312 career yards. Brees (57,904), Marino (61,361), Manning (71,215) and Favre (71,838) are all fairly separated on the leaderboard but with three of the players still active, that top five could look a lot different by the end of this season. Manning surpassing Favre is certainly possible this year, and Brees could move up.
The next-best active player is New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, down the list at No. 12 all time with 41,531 yards. He trails Dan Fouts at No. 11, though if he plays as long as his brother, he could eclipse the 55,000-yard mark himself. Ben Roethlisberger (39,969 yards) and Philip Rivers (39,107 yards) are also in the same range.
This is the second big milestone of the season for Brady. He became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to reach 400 passing touchdowns when he hit Danny Amendola for a score against the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier in the season. Amendola was also the player to catch the second-quarter pass that put him over 55,000 yards for his career as well.
Brady is having a phenomenal season even outside the record books. He’s completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 2,054 yards and 16 touchdowns against a single interception. His lowest mark for interceptions was 2010, when he played in all 16 games but tossed just four interceptions against his 36 touchdown passes. The Patriots are 6-0 on the season, well ahead in the AFC East.
And now, Brady isn’t just reaching milestones with his arm:
For the first time in his career, @Patriots QB Tom Brady finished as the team's leading rusher in a game. 4 rushes, 15 yards, 1 TD.
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) October 25, 2015 The Patriots had just nine carries overall, while Brady threw 54 times. It’s easy to see why he keeps reaching passing milestones given that breakdown.
