The San Francisco 49ers were always a team that could go either way this season, given how much changed over the course of a single offseason. After starting their season with a win over the Minnesota Vikings, there was some optimism surrounding the team, but they've now allowed 90 points over the past two games.
NFL picks and predictions, Packers vs. 49ers 2015: No experts picking San Francisco
Surprise: experts aren’t exactly confident in the 49ers heading into a Week 4 game against the Packers.
While the offense was responsible for some of those points due to turnovers, things are not looking good for a defense that now has to face Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Ben Roethlisberger and Carson Palmer absolutely dominated San Francisco's defense drive after drive over the past two games, and Rodgers has looked as sharp as ever for the Packers.
This one might just get ugly for the 49ers. They're not a team without talent, and while new head coach Jim Tomsula is a far cry from Jim Harbaugh, the players like him. NaVorro Bowman and Antoine Bethea will need to dig deep and get a handle on the defense, while Colin Kaepernick needs to clean up his game and start getting the ball to Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis on offense.
Kaepernick had a terrible game last time out, throwing for under 100 yards and four interceptions against the Cardinals. The first two interceptions came on San Francisco's first two drives, and both were returned for touchdowns by the Cardinals.
The Packers, on the other hand, dominated the Chicago Bears in Week 1, had no issues dispatching the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 and also beat the tough Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3. They've beaten two good teams and one bad team, and based on what we've seen thus far, the 49ers might be in the latter category. Rodgers is expected to have a field day.
Unsurprisingly, it’s not easy to find experts picking the 49ers for Sunday’s game. Over at CBS Sports, all eight of the experts are going with Green Bay, and at ESPN, all 13 of their picking experts are also going with the Packers to win it. Here at SB Nation, it’s the exact same thing: all seven experts, plus the OddsShark computer, think the Packers have this one and a 4-0 start in the bag.
