Ninety minutes before they were scheduled to fly to London for this week’s game against the Chiefs, the Detroit Lions fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and the team’s offensive line coaches. Jim Bob Cooter took over, and the plan was to implement a simpler offense emphasizing the run and quarterback Matthew Stafford’s big arm with more vertical passing routes.
Let’s check in with Jim Bob Cooter and the Lions offense
NOT GREAT, JIM BOB!

And how’s that working out so far?
- Through two quarters of play, the Lions have 121 total yards and three points for their efforts.
- Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has 68 rushing yards. The Lions have 67 rushing yards ... the whole offense.
- Stafford has been sacked five times, including three plays in a row on the Lions last drive of the second quarter.
- Stafford has throw two picks. He’s 8 for 15 with 72 yards.
This post really isn’t about the Lions defense, which is also terrible, but we might as well throw in some stat porn for that side of the ball too.
The Lions have allowed an NFL-high 13 rushing TD this season (3 in the 1st half today), 5 more than they allowed all of last year. #DETvsKC
